there are lot of features in windows vista than xp the best i like is the speech recognization located in control panel by which we could manage the computer without touching any peripheral, confused we my just order the computer like saying start speech recognization would automatically click on start and lot more.lot of new wallpapers.
performance:xp is good for performance why because the utilization of video memory in vista is more so there is low performance in vista but when it comes to games the vista has direct x 10 there is good performance in vista
clearity:vista is more clear
secutrity:there is lot of securtiy updates in windows vista
*no autorun of pendrive in windows vista(.exe is not executed directly)
*sound quality of windows vista is good
*new softwares
*vista uses a lot of memory of disk.

There are still some annoyances like User Accpunt Control and overaggressive authentication routines, but 7 really does combine the best of XP and Vista.

I reformatted the computer, installed Windows XP Pro, found all of the drivers and now I have a system that works and is fast in its tasks.
I don't know about windows 7, but my philosophy is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Before, with Vista, it was broke.
During the time I was so frustrated by Vista (which is spanish for view, but I think their view was one of a garbage dump, a good place for the program), I went out and bought a MacBook.
Now I am happy with two computers that do their jobs well.

XP is older. It doesn't look as pretty as Vista or 7 and doesn't have all the features. However, it runs fast because of this, especially on older hardware. Many people still use it and most people know how to use it.
Vista is the current generation (but not for long). It looks pretty and has advanced features that XP doesn't . However, it runs much slower than XP and there are still a lot of people who don't know how to use it. (They only know where to find things in XP.) Vista can also be annoying if UAC is on.
7 is comming out soon. It is a visual redesign of the Windows operating system. It basically fixed many of the things that people didn't like about Vista. However, it hasn't been tested very much yet, and usually it takes one or two service packs for Microsoft operating systems to be any good. However, it shows promise and if someone can learn it, I'd be willing to bet that 7 becomes the new XP after a few years.

XP. A larger installed base and likely more familiarity with the interface. I regret installing Vista ... a new interface for one ... quirky behavior for another ... slower than XP and unpredictable sleep/hibernation (so one has to essentially shut down every time negating the speed advantage of leaving Vista on). And of course a memory hog .... my 2 GB not enough. Plus my organization doesn't support Vista so can't use any of the shared resources.

7. XP is a very old operating system and it shows. It is very insecure, has massive problems with drivers, and has a search function that is useless (you can walk away for an hour). Vista is more secure, but is bloatware and performance is awful, which has been demonstrated by its failure in the netbook market. 7 is Vista but with major performance tweaks. Speed is now similar to XP - better in some cases, worse in others, which to me is acceptable. Security is as good or better than Vista, with features like Windows Defender standard. The user interface is the best one yet from Microsoft, The taskbar is now very useful, doing some of the same things as the Dock on a Mac. There are still some annoyances like User Accpunt Control and overaggressive authentication routines, but 7 really does combine the best of XP and Vista.

I bought a Lenovo Intel duo-core about 1 1/2 years ago with Windows on it and was continually frustrated with the lousy boot-up speed and program response. It was a disaster. I reformatted the computer, installed Windows XP Pro, found all of the drivers and now I have a system that works and is fast in its tasks.

I think they all have their uses depending on the person needing a computer. XP is older. It doesn't look as pretty as Vista or 7 and doesn't have all the features. However, it runs fast because of this, especially on older hardware. Many people still use it and most people know how to use it.
