I am a die-hard XP fan, but I want to game with DX10. The DX10 XP cracks don't work. Should I install Vista 64 or Windows 7 RC?
I have a pimp system that is basically throttled due to a lack of DX10 and the 32 bit memory addressing cap. My XP install is just lightening fast, and games FLY... but I feel like I am in the stone age running a quad core OC'ed liquid system with high-speed DDR3 RAM on XP (O/S has about 3GB to use since vid card is eating up so much) with no DX10. Right now I am playing Mass Effect and Far Cry 2 (I am a bit behind on gaming) but I haven't even finished Bioshock yet. I want to see the DX10 revolution!

Windows 7. It is better than Vista in every respect including performance, driver compatibility and XP compatibility. The release candidate will expire in June of next year, so you will have plenty of time to see if you like it. You might still have an occasional issue, but you would going from XP to Vista as well.

Windows 7 hands down. The windows 7 beta is so much more stable then vista, it isn't even funny.
Based on the same hardware you would be better to run the RC of Windows 7. A friend of mine has an Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) based rig and he gets better frame rates and stability under Windows 7 compared to Vista 64 bit. I would suggest installing x64 Vista and running your games for two reasons the RC is free and it is more stable and has better features then x64 Vista. And might as well get a taste of a fantastic operating system before it is released through retail outlets.
Goodluck!
