How do you enable controlling a Windows computer using voice ?

I have heard about speech dictation software, but that is not what I want, what I would need is a way to control Windows operations and do text input using voice, I have standard Windows XP, I have heard about TTS, I have microphone, how can I make text speech input using voice in addition to mouse commands?

The Speech Recognition Engine is not built-in to Windows XP. However, you can enable it.

Couple of things you need:
- Windows XP Service Pack 1 or above.
- Microsoft Speech Recognition Engine v5.0
- Applications that can accept the speech input (e.g. Notepad, Outlook Express, etc.)

The Speech Recognition Engine is available either from:
- Office XP Application (Word 2002, Excel 2002, etc).
- Microsoft Speech Software Development Kit 5.1. (no support is provided for this application. Thus, it's not recommended for novice users).
