Right click anywhere on the desktop and select “Personalize” now select “Adjust Font Size (dpi)” on the left menu. The UAC may appear just click “Continue” to proceed. The DPI Scaling window will pop up, select “Larger Scale (120 dpi)” And if the default options are not enough for you than go towards the bottom you will see “Custom DPI” button. This allows you to change the font size by percentage. Play around with that option to find the perfect setting.

You have to adjust everything back when you just want to use the laptop screen...

Right on all accounts. Changing the DPI appeared to be the perfect solution but after displaying for a few moments the big screen goes blue with the words "Not Support" bouncing around it. Resolution changes are similar. Annoying but yours was the best answer within the stated parameters.

BTW, You may not be able to change the resolution to one you can read as your TV may not support a readable resolution. I helped a guy recently and his huge widescreen (don't remember exactly but it was the biggest one I've ever seen) didn't support something that was readable..

Try changing your resolution. I had the problem with my 42" and I just found the resolution that worked best with it and now it's just a HUGE PC monitor! Gotta love it.

The output resolution that you select on your laptop should match the screen resolution, otherwise you'll always get extrapolated pixels and unsharp characters.

In most laptops, after right clicking the desktop and selecting "personalize" and selecting "display settings", you can select to attach a second monitor. You PC's LCD is then the primary, your TV the secondary. You can then select the best resolution for each and you can drag items from one screen to the other.
