(Windows 7)Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working notification keeps popping up whenever I log into my account, restoring doesn't help.

Hi, currently, everytime i log into my account (Which is also the system administrator account) on my desktop PC, I can't get past the "Windows Explorer has stopped working" message. Thus all i get is a black screen, and nothing's moving. Running Task Manager to force start explorer.exe leads to the same error.

*Funny enough, I do NOT have the same error when i log into my guest account. Is there anything i can do to fix this? Any files i should delete? Please help!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Sorry I don't have an exact answer for you but I do have a couple of suggestions you should try.

Firstly which version of Windows 7 are you using, is it the 7000 Build that was released as a public beta or one of the later 'leaked' versions. There have been a number of strange errors reported with the leaked versions and, as with any pirated software, you should be very careful and are advised against using it at all.

Secondly, have you tried creating a new Administrator account to see if that account is plagued by the same problem? It could be that for whatever reason something has become corrupt in relation to your admin account, so creating a new account should be fine.

Thirdly, have you recently installed any new applications specifically that interact with Windows Explorer, for example folder synchronisation tools (like Dropbox, Live Mesh, etc)? If so it's worth trying uninstalling these and seeing if your problem persists.

Fourthly, have you recently performed some windows updates, or had problems doing windows update? If so this link might help http://chris123nt.com/2009/01/18/sqm-client-causing-crashing-in-windows-7/

I hope those suggestions help in someway but if not I'd recommend waiting until the Windows 7 RC is released to the public on May 5th (2009) and then install that :)

Hi thanks for the reply, I was beginning to wonder if anybody would :)

Is it possible to create a new Administrator account considering It's my admin acount which has the problem? Right now I only have 2 accounts. One which is mine (Can't get in), and one which is the guest account. Is it possible to create one without entering my account?

I actually read that sqm article but that doesnt seem to be the cause of my problems. :\ I'm using the 7000 release, and actually i'm downloading the leaked version of 7100 right now as I type this out of pure frustration. Thanks for the help though :)
