Windows 7: How can I customize the "sort by" defaults for ALL folders?

I don't use the native libraries functionality and I'm not interested in choosing folder types. I want "Date Taken" and "Date Modified" options to appear in the "Arrange By" and "Sort By" menus by default for all folders. I understand I can somewhat easily go to the "more" option and then scroll through the hundred or so details options but this is an annoyance I'm tired of.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to sevenforums.com, here are the steps to customize the "sort by" defaults for ALL folders:

1. Set a default folder template that you want to have all Windows Explorer folders to use.
NOTE: You can choose between having the General Items, Documents, Pictures, Music, or Video templates as the default folder template for all folders.

2. Now make any other changes to the folder view settings of a folder in Windows Explorer to how you want it to be displayed, then apply it to all folders. Since all folders have the same template from step 1, they will be applied to all of your folders to have the same folder view.

It sounds like you already know how to set things up the way you like it, but you want to avoid doing it for every folder. So here's what you do:

Go ahead a choose any folder and set it up the way you like:
+ click VIEW to choose icons, details, sort by, group by, etc.
+ VIEW > CHOOSE DETAILS to select or deselect display details

Once you have everything the way you want it:
+ click TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW tab > APPLY TO FOLDERS
= once you click YES to confirm, this will make all folders use the same view. You can also change other details (extensions, system files, thumbnails, etc) before clicking APPLY TO FOLDERS.

Note: This will override ALL previous settings, but any settings applied on a particular folder after this time will override this default.

Hope this helps.
