One 'risky' option used in the conservatory where I studied, utilized an acid bath to restore the original luster. All the mechanical components should be removed before attempting this approach.

WRIGHT'S Copper Cream - mild polish works well

Generally, removing the naturally occurring patina acquired through the years is frowned upon. Stick with using the valve oil & slide grease. Check out the trumpet Winton Marsalis plays on:
