Will we ever have office robots?

It it possible that we will ever have robots in the office to perform routine tasks?
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As an avid fan of science fiction, I think the day will come when we will have robots to perform mundane tasks, As long as they worked well, think of the time they would free up!

Every now and again there is a news item about the latest robotic development, but so far nothing seems to have been developed on a commercial basis.

THere is an interesting artlcle on telepresenceoptions.com about this very subject, it sounds as if that day may not be so far off after all!

Can't make that business meeting in another city? Send your robot instead. We've been keeping track of Anybots telepresence robots since they sent one of their QA bots to visit a Singularity University planning meeting. These armless human-sized bots on wheels let you remotely view and interact with people as well as exchange files. You can even let a crowd view the video from a QA by streaming it live through Justin TV. It's the 21st century way to stay in contact or make a PR push without leaving the office. Up to now the QA hasn't been openly available for purchase. That looks like it's about to change. The company's twitter feed just sent out a teaser photo along with the announcement that "Anybots is starting mass production!" Judging by the picture, there's about to be a lot more QAs in the world.January 25th, 2010 by Aaron Saenz

Personally, I would welcome the development of replicators as featured in Star Trek,
what a delight it would be to just place your order for your favorite food or drink and have it instantly produced!

I can see this being an absolute disaster. Considering how many times things break down in normal day-to-day activities, I would hate to spend time trying to fix a personal assistant which is there to help and not hinder my daily activities. Can you imagine telling your personal robot to get you coffee, dark, with two sugars, having to program it if they don’t understand, and then having the robot malfunction and bring you back a two coffees with brown sugar? In my opinion, it’s more of a liability in the workplace than anything else. Our technology is just not good enough yet, possibly in the future. Although it would be fun to assign robots to the personal assistants just to do mundane, tedious tasks that are easily programmable. That could work.
