Will the O.A.S. allow Hugo Chavez to be the next Hitler? It's clear this is the direction Venezuela is heading towards. Will it be to late?

O.A.S. is the Organiztion of American States.
Hugo Chavez is the President of Venezuela.
Venezuela is a South American Nation.

As a Venezuelan I can say that the O.A.S. it's a lost case, they have already allowed Chavez to violate the democratic card not one, but several times.
Hugo Chavez and his team have violated the human rights several times and nobody does nothing, everyone is scared, everybody let's him do his way, the powerful oil barrel gives Chavez awesome extraordinary powers.

Jimmy Carter and José Maria Insulza have come to the country some times, give a couple of nice speeches about tolerance and peace and love and then leave. All without consequences.

Is Chavez a Fascist? Yes, he has divided the population between "patriots" and "opposition" (to use the less offensive word that he uses) we the opposition, are the enemy, a terrible monster to be annihilated, he uses photos and gives names in his speeches to signal the reporters that don't support his government, and tells their followers that this reporters are the enemy.

Is Chavez the next Hitler? I think that's his dream. The religious way that his followers clap at everyone of his words, the blind obedience of his subordinates, and the permanent talk about war and violence, yes he want to become a Hitler, what stops him of waging war over the whole america? The main source of his money comes from the United States, so...

Don't be fooled, Chavez is not a stupid man, he claims to be one, he speaks as a fool, but he is not.

I am very sorry to hear all of this. I to watch as he slowly but surely place Venezuela into a state of socialism. Believe it are not, you have friends in the United States who are doing their very best to see a solution. And you are right about the O.A.S., they have no real power and do nothing as Hugo Chavez spreads his instability through out the region. They have the chance to stop him now, and they choose not to. The next world war will include Hugo Chavez and his misguided delusions. And another thing is my shock towards Brazil, who has in this case sided with him about Colombia. Hugo Chavez has done his very best to disrupt Colombia's Government. But, do you see anyone accusing Chavez of anything? No. And when Colombia seeks help, Chavez manipulates the situation into a land grab by Yankee emperialistc monster's. Does anyone assist Colombia? No. They allow that monster to continue his evil oppressive regime. I thank all of you for your input about this topic and hope to hear more from those who also feel strongly about this situation. God Bless all you!!

Even though I personally view Hugo Chavez as a authoritarian leader and disagree with his philosophy of the state's role in society, I have seen nothing that suggest he is like Hitler. One of the main characteristics of a fascist regime is the belief in racial superiority. From what I've observed I have never seen or heard Chavez ever use used language or given out any orders that suggest he hold such views. Also fascists implement socialism into their society. Even though Hugo Chavez does dream of a Socialist society he has so far failed at making his dream a reality. Within Venezuela consumerism still thrives even though the country has a Socialist leader.

To sum it all up, is Hugo Chavez a dictator? Yes. Has he committed crimes against humanity that puts him in the same company as Hitler? No.

I do not mean Hitler as being a player in racial superiority, I meant it as the main player in bringing major world powers into a fight. He continues to cry about how the United States is an evil empire and allign himself with nations against the United States and democracy. Now with Colombia seeking help, he claims a war is needed. The people of Venezuela need to ensure they continue to live with basic rights and not allow any leader to subvert them. I truly pray to God that the people of Venezuela are free and free from oppression. Please, do not misunderstand me, I do not in any way put down the people of Venezuela. I only wish to see that this potential escalation in rhetoric, doesn't go any further and cost people their lives. I will continue to pray for the people of Venezuela and hope you all are safe and happy!! God Bless all of you!!

When I heard about Chavez's plan about socializing the educational system, I was very frightened for the children of Venezuela. It's listed as a source, if the reader is curious. He's been screwing up Venezuela a little bit at a time. I remember those farm "reallocations" (repossessions) that have made the country MORE dependent on imported food.

I'm not sure what the OAS can even do about this. The UN seems to drag its feet about this sort of thing too.

It's too bad that Venezuela has a lot of oil... it's been calming the world down in the face of these troubling "reforms."

Here's the thing, though: Venezuelans won't take it. Remember when he called on his constituents pass the resolution to make him dictator for life? It failed miserably.

This man does not have the dangerous charisma that Hitler took advantage of... it doesn't help that he's very foolish.

A fun example of the king of Spain asking Chavez at a conference: "Porque no te callas?" Remixed for your enjoyment.

Translation: "Why won't you shut up?"
