Motorola Xoom is a 4G tablet, however, at the time of its launch it will work on 3G, instead of 4G. The tablet is scheduled to be launched on February 24, 2011. However, Verizon 4G network is not in position to support the tablet, therefore Xoom will be transiting to 4G network only later this year. The company chief executive officer Sanjay Jha emphasized that the tablet is capable of providing 50Mbps download speed on 4G network, which would make it considerably faster than Apple iPad. Apple tablet uses WiFi and 3G network for connectivity. In day to day situation, iPad gives about 7Mbps download speed. Thus, as and when Xoom starts working on 4G network, it would be able to provide far superior performance than iPad.
