Indeed the Motorola Xoom has a better processor than the Apple iPad. Motorola Xoom is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2. NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 series has 1GHz dual-core processor as well as 1080p Video Playback Processor and Ultra-low power (ULP) GeForce GPU. Tegra 2 series was claimed as “the world’s first mobile super chip”. Its specifications include:
- CPU: ARM Cortex-A9
- Frequency: 1 GHz, per core
- L2 Cache: 1 MB
- L1 Cache (I/D): (32KB / 32KB) per core
Apple iPad, on the other hand is powered by a single core Cortex A8. Apple specifications on iPad processor is “1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed, high-performance, low-power system-on-a-chip”.
With Motorola Xoom’s dual processor, it certainly beats iPad’s. This would explain that Motorola Xoom is a “newer model” compared to the Apple iPad. The rumored second generation iPad is expected to have a faster and better processor. As for now, Motorola Xoom is said to be the perfect iPad competitor.
