Will the iPad Camera Kit support my Nikon D300?
My Nikon D300 uses a Compact Flash card. The SD card iPad adapter won't work for my camera.
Will I have any problems plugging in my D300 into an iPad and transferring files in the field?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

To get your iPad to support your Nikon D300 like you have suggested you will need to buy the iPad camera kit - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531?mco=MTczNzY0NDg
Whilst this is a highly functional tool, unfortunately it will cost you another $27.99 on top of the price of the iPad itself.
The iPad Camera Kit supports two methods of communication with the Nikon D300, these being:
> Connection via USB Adapter or
> via SD Adapter
"The Camera Connector features a USB interface. Just plug it into the dock connector port on your iPad, then attach your digital camera or iPhone using a USB cable (not included).
Use the SD Card Reader to import photos directly from your camera’s SD card. Connect it to your iPad, then insert your digital camera’s SD card into the slot." - Source: Apple - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531?mco=MTczNzY0NDg
It looks given your scenario with the SD Card Rob that you will have to use the USB option. Simply connect your Nikon D300 to your iPad via USB connectors.
