Will the iPad 2 have a retina display? What exactly is a retina display and how will that make the Apple iPad better?

For the past weeks that I am doing these research for Mahalo, the one that fascinated me most is about the Retina Display technology.
When the Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, mentioned the "retina display" for iPhone 4, it has become a global technical term that caught the attention of the greater public.
Retina Display is a high pixel density screen used on iPhone 4. This screen uses a very interesting technology with 326dpi (dots per inch) that gives a very much clearer images and more than twice as vividly visible text on your screen. These dots are very small that the human eye cannot even notice them on the screen, thus the images are not "pixelated" at all. As Apple stated: "the retina display's pixel density is so high, your eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels".
This high resolution is screen is very good, that we want to see on the next generation iPad. So much for our expectations, rumor has it that we would not be able to see the retina display screen on the iPad 2. I have read that due to the time limitation, there's also the discordancy in the market price. This means that the iPad with a retina display screen would cost too much. Unless Apple can make deals on these conflicts, maybe, just maybe we can expect the retina display on iPad 3, not the upcoming second generation iPad.
