Will sending pink panties help?
Indian women are protesting oppression by right wing religious fanatics by sending them pink panties for Valentines Day. Will that help? Would it be a good idea for women elsewhere to protest neo-puritans, religious fundamentalists, and similar would-be oppressors?

I think any sort of rebellion or protest in situations like this can be beneficial..to an extent. This act isn't violent and doesn't provoke violence or aggression in any way, so my feeling is more power to these women who want to send a message regarding their rights.
Where would American women be today without the suffrage movement and activists like Susan B. Anthony? Where would African Americans be without the efforts of people like Martin Luther King Jr.? Sometimes causing a small stir is the way to induce a ripple effect and ultimately cause big change somewhere later down the line.
Will sending pink panties have a big effect? Maybe not initially. It does seem like something that would induce a 'shock and awe' type of response in the more conservative and oppressive areas of India, so in that case, they are beginning to spark that fire that they are looking for. I hope that they follow up with whatever they do, and continue to drive their message that they deserve rights in this world and aren't going to sit quietly as long as those are being stifled.
So I would say not only to women in India, but oppressed groups anywhere, of any race, gender, religion, etc.: make your message heard. It might seem useless at first, but the fact is, history has proven that even a small disturbance can cause a big change.
