Will scientist find life on the moon of Saturn?

Scientist have found frozen eruptions of salt water, complex compounds, but no amino acids. Do you think that may find a preferred temperature zone and life? Is the project a waste of money and wishful thinking?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The presence of geysers on Enceladus indicates that liquid water (and therefore temperatures suitable for life as we know it) are also present somewhere beneath the moon's icy crust. Whether life is found there or not, I would not consider a search for it to be a waste of time. Finding life would, of course, be the scientific discovery of the century (at least), but even a finding of no life would be significant; at a minimum, it would provide an additional data point for determining the possibility of extraterrestrial life and/or help narrow the possible range of conditions under which life might develop. At the present time, however, there is no way to predict the outcome of such a search.

Nobody knows for certain, but if I had to guess, I think they will. It's going to be a long wait though before we land something on Enceladus just because those projects take so long. There are lots of cool projects that are being built or that are flying already that will give us interesting results from around our solar system while we wait though.

Check out www.unmannedspaceflight.com for some cool discussions on this kind of exploration.
