about California
Will riders actually do the Tour of California in May next year when it's the same time as the Giro?

Unfortunately, I think it's not too likely that the leading riders next year will skip a Grand Tour to do a local race in California.
This year, the Tour of California was a great warmup for a number of riders. And the race organizers were able to bring out the huge guns for the race. Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, and a huge number of other A-listers.
I really don't know why the ToC organizers decided to schedule the Tour during the Giro, which is one of the three or four biggest races of the year. Even Levi, who I'm sure would want to defend his championship in the ToC, would be extremely tempted to ride in the Grand Tour. I know the weather was a real concern, after the past two years of rainstorms. But still, it's a really bad time to do it.
It is just really unfortunate. Nobody has announced one way or the other where they're going to go, but I think it's clear that there's no way they can bring in the same number of outstanding riders as they did this year.
