Will my iphone apps, contacts, music be erased if I disable the backup feature & update?
I want to update my phone, but the backup takes an eternity. I've tried 4 days in a row the "backing up blueberry" gets stuck halfway through the bar for hours. I'm going to disable the backup feature temporarily. Will I have to manually add every thing back in? I've reset the sync history & deleted old backups.

I believe you will have to manually add everything back. The reason being is that you have deleted all of your backups and so your computer won't have a backup to put back onto the iPhone. It sounds like this may be a bigger problem than just your phone. Could be iTunes, could be your phone, it is hard to say. At this point, being that you are already erased all your backups, you might as well try and see if it will sync now. If it does then you will just have to manually put everything back on. Your contacts and music should still be okay if you sync both of them with your computer. You will just have to add your apps and set up email again. When you try to sync your iPhone, have it sync as a "new phone". This may help. If this process doesn't work, I would first try to reinstall iTunes on your computer. Then try again, if that still doesn't work, it may be your phone at that point. Which then I would either call Apple Support or bring it in to an Apple Store.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
