Will Matthew Stafford be able to improve the Detroit Lions enough to possibly make a playoff appearance?

I think it's highly doubtful. Rookie quarterbacks have an extremely difficult job in the NFL. They basically have the weight of the entire franchise on their shoulders, because the fans think that the new QB will be their savior. But it doesn't usually work out that way.
There have been a couple of recent examples of this working out--Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco were both very impressive as rookies. But there are many more examples of high draft picks (anybody remember #1 draft pick Alex Smith?) not being able to handle it.
The Lions went 0-16. The idea that they would be able to win the 8 or 9 games (at least!) required to make it to the playoffs is a heck of a stretch.
