Will it be weird if I add hot water to an espresso shot to make it taste like a good cup of coffee?

I just purchased a Delonghi superautomatic espresso machine but it doesnt have the drip coffee like some do. Can I add hot water to an espresso to make regular coffee?

Of course! That's what an "Americano" is - it's available at every coffee shop in the U.S. It's nothing but espresso and hot water. Or, an iced one is espresso and ice/cold water.

--QUOTE--
Americano (It. "American"): Espresso and hot water, classically using equal parts each, with the water added to the espresso. Americano was created by American G.I.s during World War I who added hot water to dilute the strong taste of the traditional espresso.5 Similar to a long black.

Awsome! Thanks! LOL! I have never ordered an Americano before. I always order lattes or just coffee. I feel so much better knowing that I purchased this machine and it'll come in handy with all my fav drinks!

I was just thinking, one more question: What if I wanted to add milk/cream with the "americano". Will it not taste good?

Yes that would be the American coffee and if you do add milk or cream it would be fine, if it is just a a teaspoon it would be an Americano Macchiato.
There is really no right or wrong way something can taste good to you and not to someone else and viceversa....

Not weird at all! What you're describing is actually a standard espresso drink found on coffee shop menus all over the place. Espresso with hot water added to it is called a Caffé Americano.

Americanos also happen to be my favorite espresso drink. ^_^

It depends your taste, so you can do anything you like to get the right drink for you. Review the manual that came with your espresso machine to see what you can do with it and just let your taste be your guide.
