Will Google Me be a Facebook killer?
My question is, if Google launched it's own social media site ("Google Me"), would it be able to compete with and surpass Facebook? Why or why not?
Bonus Questions:
Who would you be rooting for to "win the battle"?
Do you trust Google or Facebook more with your privacy?

Of course, it's too early to tell if Google Me will be a good alternative or not, but Wave didn't do much after the initial excitement for it swelled.

M$If I did have to choose though, I would root for Google more, simply because first there was Myspace, then face book came along and introduced new features and applications and things, so I would be curious to see what Google Me had in store.

M$I for one will try it out for sure. As long as their features and the overall look and feel hold up, I think it will do quite well. BUT most importantly I hope that the customer service will keep up better than Facebook's ever has such as ignoring the "BAN NOW, ASK QUESTIONS LATER" policy: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/my-facebook-account-was-banned-for-reaching-5-000-friends-im-a-fashion-designer-and-kept-accepting-people-until-it-capped-what-to-do
I think people are ready to move on from Facebook because of the privacy issues, but there is just to much inertia to overcome. As for who I trust more - I don't think I trust Google more than Facebook - they aren't necessarily better when it comes to privacy...just not as stupid about how they go about on the surface.

M$Google Me at best just wants to take control of the secondary Market Share long term and should be considered a MySpace killer if anything. We should all know by now that Google is not the best company to provide a killer web 2.0 platform. Buzz was a disaster, so why do we think they could do any better when taking on a much larger company, with more pivots than Google can handle?
Just wish more people knew the power, growth and innovation behind Facebook to realize they aren't going anywhere in our lifetime. So please stop using the phrase "Facebook Killer." Thanks.

M$I agree with everything you say except that Facebook isn't "going anywhere in our lifetime." In internet terms, Facebook will be a dinosaur in 10 years, let alone a few decades!
Haha yeah I might have overstated that...I guess I meant it won't be killed by any other website in our lifetime. It will either implode internally or die as a part of the online cycle. But they are so far ingrained into the web world that they aren't going anytime soon. I think they have a good 15 years ahead if they pivot into certain product areas. Facebook considering the mobile industry, search industry, already has a big foot in the gaming industry. I don't think those industries are going anywhere!
Some important improvements.
Make it easier for app makers to develop software.
Allow adult content for those that want it.
Gmail-Google Docs integration.
It can be a killer app, but to have draw it has to be more than a clone.

M$@cheapgamer If you think about it, Facebook was completely different than MySpace, and Twitter is completely different than Facebook. Google would be better off not trying to copying Twitter or Facebook, and instead work on something new!
I agree, which is why I don't see Bing ever catching up to Google. Once a company is dominating something, copying won't cut it.
What's a Bing? ;o) I kid I kid.
Seriously, I could not agree with you more, if it is a carbon copy there is no motivation to switch.
