Will exercising help my immune system?

Should I exercise more during winter to stop from getting sick? Has there been any research done about the immune system and exercise?

Yes, exercising helps boost the immune system. Regular exercise will strengthen the cardiovascular system, lymphatic system and circulatory system. Increased blood and lymph flow makes it easier for cells to protect you from an infection. Learn more about the benefits of exercise to your immune system here:

Hi cachemoney,

Exercising along with proper nutrition is the key to beat sickness. You need to get adequate exercise, eat healthy diet and lower your stress levels in order to enjoy good health. Exercise improves the working of your body’s immune system. A robust immune system helps you beat sickness.

However you need to exercise in moderation. Very intense exercise can also suppress your immune system. There is no need to exercise more during winter the reason why we tend to fall sick more often in winter is that during winter we tend to avoid going outdoors to exercise. Instead we tend to sleep in a lot more and skip exercise. But instead if you exercise indoor at the same intensity as you did outdoors, you would be fit as a fiddle.

There are plenty of research studies to indicate the impact of exercise on the immune system. One such study was conducted by Lynn Fitzgerald, who deduced that excessive exercising does tend to suppress your immune system. You can read the report at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VHW-485Y1KP-5R&_user=10&_coverDate=12%2F31%2F1988&_rdoc=1&_fmt=high&_orig=search&_origin=search&_sort=d&_docanchor=&view=c&_searchStrId=1634322778&_rerunOrigin=scholar.google&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=5d1955221dd6c972814ec42fddde3e9d&searchtype=a
