Will Chase Utley someday make the Hall of Fame? 4 or 5 years of 25 to 30 home runs, .300 average and solid defense gives him a good shot!

Tip for best answer: M$0.25

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think that Utley will need to finish his career with at least 350 home runs and a .300 average to be a Hall of Famer. However, his intangibles are outstanding.

Ryne Sandberg hit 282 home runs and a .285 average and is in, of course he was a Gold Glover every year too. I think it will take around 300 home runs, which isn't out of the realm of possibility.

It is impossible to judge after four or five years. There have been many players to put up great numbers for a few years, but it's consistency combined with longevity that gets a player into the Hall of Fame.

I misstated my question. I meant to say ANOTHER 4 or 5 years of that kind of production, which would give him 10 years of great play.
