Will America's Got Talent produce a true music superstar?

During the first four seasons, the biggest star to come from that show is ventrilaquist Terry Fator. Three singers have won the competition and I haven't heard much about them since. Which of Bianca Ryan, Neal E Boyd and Kevin Skinner will become the biggest star, if any? Do you think that perhaps this show isn't the proper venue for a musician to be recognized and started in his or her career?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I will be honest, and this is just my own personal thought. I do not believe America's Got Talent will produce a true music superstar. The couple times I have watched the show it seemed like a joke. I think someone has a better chance of becoming a star by trying out for American Idol. There have already been so many stars that have been created from the show. American idol has a huge audience.

Maybe America's Got Talent would be good for some talents, but as for singers I do not believe it is the correct route to go. Comedians may have a chance at becoming recognized from the show and perhaps odd talents will atleast have a big platform to be seen by many people. Dancers would probably do better on So You Think You Can Dance. Right or wrong, just my personal thoughts!

I agree, American Idol has produced stars such as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, etc.

I don’t believe this show is the proper venue for a singer, who wants a serious career, to get their start. It is a variety show, where pretty much anything goes. How professional would you consider a singer who was pitted against a rapping grandma or a man who juggles bowling balls?

While I do think that this is an excellent way to gain exposure for oneself, I would not bank my career as a singer on winning America’s Got Talent. American Idol is much more appropriate departing point for individuals looking to have a lasting career. I can name nearly every winner of Idol, but didn’t even remember the name of the teenage vocalist on America’s Got Talent last week!

If you are looking for you 15 minutes of fame, then America’s Got Talent would be a great place to find it, but other than that, stay away for the sake of your career.

While I enjoy watching America's Got Talent, I don't think the judging is representative of where the true talent it. Last season Kevin Skinner won despite clearly not being the best singer. But he won because he had a good story as a chicken farmer who got his big break. Runner-up Barbara Padilla was a better singer but wasn't as popular. America ended up voting for the best story rather than the best performance. As a result, I don't think that Skinner will become a superstar.

In fact, many of these reality shows which have the general public determine who wins is flawed. It is merely a popularity contest and not a true representation of who is the best. But the shows are popular so nothing will change.
