Will a webcam work on satellite connection?

I've been thinking about getting a webcam but I satellite connection. I know it does bad with games online but I want to know if there will be too much lag over satellite. Thanks a lot.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The webcam as hardware will work just fine but you will be limited on the quality of the video based on the quality of your connection. Most Satellite connections will give you sufficient downstream to view someone elses webcam but might cap the upload speeds you can achieve thus giving you a somewhat choppy video out. The only way to really know is to try and see... there is always a chance that you will have enough bandwidth, even on the satellite connection, to have a viewable imagine.

Oh, bandwidth is most certainly an issue if you're on a satellite communications network (as opposed to a regional internet satellite network). So many of those services still characterize their upload speeds in baud, unless you're lugging around a 20lb satellite transmitter.

I don't think the problem here is bandwidth, but latency (which would cause the lag).

@edd I was more thinking of a house two-way satellite dish which usually have a good enough upload speed (slow compared to a DSL or cable connection, but still pretty good).
