Were you also deceived by Cricket Broadband's "unlimited" claim?

After they cut my download speed to around 100k, I called to ask then why. They told me that it was in the terms of service that after 5 gigs, throttling would apply. Sure enough, its there.
I called their sales department twice to see if they would tell me the same thing that I was told at the store when I bought the modem. Indeed when asked about speeds and bandwidth, they told me there was no restriction. Their motto is "unlimited really means unlimited". What a rip off.

Always read a contract before signing. Sales people are trained to sell and most have never read the contract themselves. They work from a script and make assumptions (in many cases incorrect ones) where the customer deviates from the script.

While the true meaning of "unlimited" is surely something they should be versed in, it is still your responsibility to read the fine print.

From their website:

"Throughput speed may be limited if usage adversely impacts our network, service levels or exceeds 5 GB per month.

Requires new activation and up to $25 activation fee. Taxes and fees extra. Unlimited coverage not available everywhere; coverage maps (http://www.mycricket.com/cricketcoveragemaps/). See Acceptable Use Policy (http://www.mycricket.com/broadband/acceptableuse/). Click here for more Important Information (http://www.mycricket.com/broadband/importantinformation/)."

It was brought to my attention that I did not directly answer the question in my original reply.

Q: Were you also deceived by Cricket Broadband's "unlimited" claim?
A: No, by reading the terms of the agreement I was able to avoid the very misleading advertisements.

My original answer neglected to point that out. Hopefully others who read the question and a way to avoid that will not be similarly scammed.

I learned the hard way years ago when I took someone's word over the printed contract I signed. Never again.

You don't get a TOS until you purchase the service. They lie at the the store straight to your face. I asked if there was a limit of any kind and they said no, the ads said no limits. After installing the modem the TOS comes up and the you see the limit. This is illegal and has been prosecuted with Verizon in New York. Verizon had to pay one million in damages to 13,000 users for saying unlimited and having a 5gb cap. Just a matter of who will pick up the case at this point. The sad thing is Cricket wants and is getting Federal stimulus grants to pawn this garbage off on the poor as a cheap connection option. DSL is $19.99 truly no real limit and Cricket slow band $40.00 a month with cap. Where would our tax dollars be better spent? Corporate creeps are destroying this nation. No better than common criminals really. Stay away from Cricket unless you want to pay $45.00 a month for three days of 200kb and 28 days of slower than dial up. The full service does not even reach federal rules for broadband speeds. How they can lie like this both for broadband and unlimited is a joke. Cricket is breaking the law. Criminals. I will file with my DA for fraud charges. That should get some notice.
