Why would someone want to tweet a link to a Mahalo question on Twitter? (seriously asking; not being snarky)

I hate it when someone innovates and people immediately criticize without giving it a chance, and that is definitely not my intent here. I just don't understand the reason for tweeting questions to twitter and would like to know what the envisioned use/purpose is for this feature so that I can share in the fun.

With my limited understanding, it seems like tweeting questions to followers would result in one of three things:
1. followers would answer me instead of answering on Mahalo
2. followers would ignore it thinking I was marketing Mahalo
3. followers are already on Mahalo and would have already answered if they could

Option #1 could get me some points by letting me take credit for a follower's answer, but the other two options seem like they might get negative reactions. Thus, I obviously am missing something because nobody purposely designs "negative" features. Can someone explain how it's supposed to be used and why?

In the interest of trying to be positive, here are two ways how I think it could be great with a slight tweak:

Urgent Bounty:
Let people offer a bonus tip for "urgent" questions if they are answered within the next 60 minutes. For example, if I want a fast answer, I could offer a $M5 speed bounty. Every 15 minutes 25% of that bounty would be removed until it expires in one hour. Someone who receives such tweets might think "I'll answer this fast and make $5!" and go sign up for Mahalo.

Stumped Bounty:
Conversely, if a question goes unanswered after a week, enabling the "Tweet this question" for a day and having Mahalo offer extra M$ if it is answered within 24hrs would be a way to resolve more unanswered questions and offer a limited time opportunity for twitterati to make some extra cash.

Limiting tweets to questions with bonus tips might be better received as "Hey smart people, come get free money!" sounds better than "Hey followers, Mahalo Mahalo Mahalo". It offers a special bounty to followers instead of marketing to them. These suggestions could also really improve Mahalo content by encouraging faster responses and reducing unanswered questions.
Tip for best answer: M$1.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It's amazing what people will do for the 10 Mahalo Cents, and I think that incentive might be a reason someone might tweet it. Another reason would be because they thought the question was interesting enough to share with their followers, or they were asking a question about one of their Mahalo Pages, so they figured it might be a good idea to tweet it this way, so they can get feedback on their page.

I like this idea. It is a way to expand an interesting question. I did several last night. I would only tweet those questions that I thought would be of interest to a lot of people, but I can see how a gamer might tweet a question that refers to World of Warcraft or Everquest if that was what the gamer was into.
I remember that I tweeted my own history question, a question about the Buffalo Bills, a question about the best remote control. Those are things that I am interested in.

Thanks everyone for all of the replies.

Are there any Mahalo staffers that would care to chime in on how they are hoping members will use this feature?

I think this question will expire in about a day, and I would be curious to see if they have any different comments than those posted by us regular users.

I think because they want to bring more people to mahalo. Also who isn't looking for another penny...lol in a way I guess.. :) that's why I ad to my tweet and facebook because I fell in love with this site and want to share it with my friends!

Sometimes questions pull in people. I sent a World of Warcraft question out on Tweet today and because it goes over to Facebook I had several new people come over to check out the page about the new expansion. To me it wasn't even about the money I was tweeting interesting things all along. The new tweet money is brand new.

Like many members already wrote. They want more members and traffic, the question is used to draw in attention. Like if you saw a question you knew the answer to you would follow the link and hopefully join because of this. It's also a good way to get answers too, if twitter members send you an answer. You can submit it and as a source add the twitterer's name. You have to think outside the box :D

When you have people look at your managed pages you get more hits and make money off of it.
