Why won't my StumbleUpon toolbar show up in Firefox?

I have the lastest updates on both. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling both, and the problem persists. After installing the toolbar and restarting firefox, nothing happens. The SU toolbar doesn't even show up when I go to view>toolbars, even though it is installed.

The weirdest part, to me at least, is that sometimes (very rarely), when I open Firefox, my stumbleupon toolbar is there! It works perfectly, and then disappears again the next time I open firefox.

I have windows vista, if it matters. Please help!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I found that one person fixed the problem with this:

"This happens to me every so often. If you are using Firefox this is the way I fix it. A manifest will embed itself in your firefox folder for reasons I don’t know. But go to C:/program files/mozilla firefox/chrome if you see a file called m3ffxtbr.manifest go ahead and delete it. It does no damage to the functionality of firefox and completely restores your stumble toolbar"

m3ffxtbr.manifest is apparently an installer for MyWebSearch toolbar for Firefox, and seems to cause a lot of problems with different addons.

If it still doesn't show, or that file isn't there, uninstall all addons, then reinstall SU, making sure you use the latest addon at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/138?id=138

One more thing, when you uninstall Firefox, are you selecting "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations"? If not, it might be keeping some files that are causing a problem with the installation or setup of the plugin. Bear in mind, though, you would have to set it all back up like from scratch. If that is OK, I would even make sure to delete the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox" (which I guess is just C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox in 32-bit Vista).

What version of Vista (32 or 64 bit), Firefox (3.0.5?), and StumbleUpon addon (3.28?)?

Also, did it prompt you to sign in or create a new profile when you installed it?

Amitdutt is right! I was just having this exact same issue just now and uninstalling the skype addon for FF worked. Amit- you're my hero!

Start firefox with

firefox.exe -p -no-remote

and create a new "test" profile.

Install the stumbleupon addon there. If this works, then your old profile settings are corrupted in some way and you need to eliminate all occurences of stumbleupon before making it work again.

No, it still doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling countless time.

I have the most current versions of each.

can you please tell me which version you are using?

Also try cickin on: CTRL + F11

If neither works, i found this in a website:
"My solution to the disapearing toolbar

A thought struck me, I had an idea that I could use the about:config thing in Firefox to manaully change the position of the toolbar. So I went in, used the about:config filter to find the StumbleUpon prefs, changed stumble.toolbar-position from stumbleupon to address, restarted Firefox, and there it was. I checked about:config and it looks like StumbleUpon set the location back to stumbleupon upon reboot fixing the whole problem."

if you have tried all the above methods, especially the about::config one, please degrade to ff3 and not the next version, it sometimes causes some problems with the toolbar.

if you're using a mac with firefox:

Tools > Add-ons > Stumbleupon > Appearance > More position options > Stumbleupon toolbar > okay

A stumble button should appear next to the URL field of your browser.

Click it.

Boom, there's your toolbar.

On top in the firefox window, click on View --> Toolbars, and make sure that the stumbleupon toolbar is checked. If it is and it's still not showing up, uncheck it and recheck it. Then try restarting firefox. If that doesn't work, uninstall the toolbar and then reinstall it. If that still doesn't work, go to View --> Toolbars --> Customize . Then physically move buttons around. Your toolbar is probably stuck somewhere, or you're encountering a rare bug. Moving things around might make it reappear.

Happy stumbling!!

Do you have it disabled? I'd go to Tools --> Add-ons, scroll down to StumbleUpon, and make sure it's enabled. You'll know if there's a button that says "Disable". If it's enabled, click on Options, and in the Appearance tab, under More postion options, click on StumbleUpon Toolbar.

HOPEFULLY one of those things will work. I hope that helps!!

I said in my question that it doesn't show up in the view>toolbars section at all, even though it IS installed.

Yes, it's enabled but when I click on options, it tells me to create a stumbleupon profile (I already have). :/

I appreciate your help though.

God, that is so annoying!! I hope you find a solution! The only thing I can think of if none of what I just said worked is, actually go ahead and create yet another profile to an email address that forwards to your current one. Or maybe delete your old profile and start over, as much as that sucks to do .

I'll post again if I think of anything.

If you haven't tried yet, check Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > and try playing around with the options for Stumble Upon

Oh, Vista! Could be that's the problem, if Bugsy's solution doesn't work. You may need to make sure your Vista is current/all security patches.

Hey demanda, i was having the EXACT same problem as you are where it wouldnt even give you the option to view SU toolbar. After much search, i found that by upgrading to Skype 4.0, it adds a skype extension for firefox. This should be visible in Downloads>Add-Ons. After I uninstalled this, my SU toolabr immediately appeared. Uninstalling the skype extension also got rid of other issues i was having with other add-ons. seems Skype is the culprit. Hope this works for you as well

Hey demanda, i was having this exact same problem. If you havn't been able to fix this yet, i hope this helps. I started having this problem after i updated to skype 4.0. It adds an extension for friefox, which you should be able to see in your list of add-ons. Delete/uninstall this skype extension, it should solve all your problems....good luck

I had the same problem and was researching a possible solution until late last night. Finally, I just uninstalled the add-on, then firefox, then rebooted. Reinstalled firefox, made a new stumble account, reinstalled stumble add-on and magically, there it was. At that point, I was able to log back in to my original account. Hope that helps?
