Why when I ask a question with a tip I get twice as many answers?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$1. You can then use the tip you earned to ask a question. The higher the tip value your question offers, the more thorough the answer, and the faster the answers will come.
2. 1 Mahalo dollar translates to 75 US cents, and you can "cash out" when you reach M$40 or more.
3. You can tip others for their helpful comments.
Questions that don't offer tips are, in the eyes of many, "not worth the trouble" but not everybody thinks that way. They're also listed *below* the questions that offer tips, which encourages you to offer a tip so your question gets to the top of the list. It's kinda like eBay, where you can pay an extra $5 to be the "featured item" and be on the top of the list. If the question's compelling enough, people will answer it.
But at the end of the day, it's all about earning the M$1+ because you can do stuff with the cash you earn.

M$I expect that fun questions with no tip get answers as well - I typically browse "unanswered first" and unless it is some specific question that only certain people could possibly know, normally everything gets answered at least a little bit.

M$Are you asking this question as a non-tipping question too, just to see how many more people answer this one than that one
