Actor Heath Ledger is to take on a surprising cameo role in this year's Oscar 'In Memoriam' montage, it was announced today. The Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in addition to announcing the nominees for this year's Oscars, also nominated actors who have expired in the last year to the Oscar memorial montage, a perennial heart-breaker of the Oscar broadcast. Ledger, who was found dead in a Manhattan apartment on Tuesday, was nominated for best actor in 2005 for his role as Ennis Del Mar in the controversial film "Brokeback Mountain." "This is a surprise role for Ledger," commented Insider host Pat O'Brien, "he definitely out-died Brad Renfro, who just died last week." Editors for the memoriam montage were scrambling today to find forgiving photographs of Ledger, and wondering if they'll have to "scrap the Anna Nicole Smith" part of the piece.
