Why was Rugrats canceled?

Rugrats was my favorite show of all time. I would watch it religiously until it no longer came on TV. I will admit, I still watch it if I ever catch it on, but that seems very, very rare. I was always a huge fan of the video game as well as the movies that were done as well. I honestly miss the original show, the All Grown Up show isn’t quite the same. Nothing better than little babies running amuck, but I guess some things have to end at some point. I am very curious as to why the show was cancelled, or why it didn’t evolve with their age, instead of jumping ahead many years. I understand they couldn’t of stayed babies forever, but still it could have been done differently. Any opinions and suggestions welcome, as well as a reason for the cancellation.

There was a lot of criticism of the show when Dil and Kimi were introduced to Rugrats, and it went downhill. Partly because of this, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Fairly OddParents replaced Rugrats as the top shows on Nickelodeon.

It was probably the creators figuring that the kids who watched Rugrats had also grown up, so they took a chance and went with aging the characters. That gamble worked, because the All Growed Up special scored big ratings for Nick, which gave birth to All Grown Up.

I loved Rugrats, and I liked All Grown Up. For me it was better to have them change than to not be on the air at all.
