Why was Rick Sanchez fired from CNN? Do you think it was necessary?

"Appearing on "Stand Up with Pete Dominick" Thursday, Sanchez called Jon Stewart a "bigot" and said that CNN and the other networks are all run by Jewish people."
"Very powerless people... (snickers) He's such a minority, I mean, you know (sarcastically)... Please, what are you kidding? ... I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they -- the people in this country who are Jewish -- are an oppressed minority? Yeah. (sarcastically)"

M$So yes, he deserved to be fired. That's not silly to me. What is silly is that the firing is largely ceremonial. He'll be unemployed for a while, living on severance, and then he'll be back again, on the TV somewhere, ranting and raving like an idiot (which, by the by, is what CNN paid him to do in the first place) and there have been many, many people in the entertainment industry who have done far, far worse. So I don't exactly understand the hub ub. Even Jon Stewart forgave him and moved on.

And yes, he called John Stewart a bigot (Stewart rips on Sanchez like no other)

M$Rick Sanchez fired by CNN for his controversial comments (a 'bigot') against Jon Stewart on Stand-Up with Pete Dominick radio. Rick Sanchez was fired owing to his controversial comments on the radio show, he said that the media channels are mostly run by Jewish communities and even CNN is run by Jewish people.

This past Friday, CNN issued a statement stated that Rick Sanchez will not be a part of the company anymore. The officials (Big Cats) did not give any reason as why he was Rick Sanchez fired. In the statement, it was also mentioned that the network Big Cats wish him “well” for his future life.

M$That said, he did forget himself and make one really stupid move. He is a nationally known figure and has a job informing people around the globe on the happenings of the world. With that, of all people, he should be aware of the ramifications of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Personally, I could find reason to believe that he might not have meant to offend or insult anyone except the people attacking him.
That does not change that he should have the integrity to let the insults roll off of him and keep stepping. He gets paid lots of money to put on a public face and not let his personal feelings get in the way. He knew the moment he finished that he probably stepped over the line when he decided to retaliate on Stewart AND pull a race card. Whether he was giving credit to the Jewish people for having control or complaining that they and/or Stewart whines too much is also a moot point. He make a retort about Steward while talking about Jewish people.
He is not some average person off the street. He was hired to express national views in the name of the company paying him all that money. CNN is not a 'fly by night' operation. They hired him because he was qualified for his job. If this was going to be a problem for him, then he shouldn't be working for them. This isn't really an issue that should be questioning him on whether he was being a racist or telling Steward to stop crying... this is a simple case of what should be to his very skilled and qualified knowledges as 'common sense'.
Is it fair? Maybe only Rick knows that. Did CNN do badly? No. It is still a business and its primary tool is (suppose to be) reputable public faces that can communicate with the people globally. If the people get upset at the public face, then it would be poor business practices to allow or insist that someone that the people are mad at be the one to address them any further.
Under normal circumstances, sure... cut the guy a break. But he isn't having a bad day while working the fryers at McDonald's for minimum wages. He is paid very handsomely to be more competent than most of the planet at addressing the globe about things that matter to them.
My answer: yes... he should have been fired. Not for the remarks- unless they were meant to be insulting the Jewish community. He should be fired for embarrassing the people signing his check by getting sucked into a petty name-calling match and not thinking before speaking.

M$1. That Stewart is a "bigot" because Sanchez is a typical media blowhard.
2. That the claim that Jews could empathize with him because Jews are an oppressed minority was specious- and I agree with him on that point. Jews are not an oppressed minority by an measure.
3. That the media is predominantly Jewish, which is in fact true.
4. That the media is "bigoted" because of the fact that they are predominantly.Jewish.
Statement 4 is the real reason I believe that Sanchez should have been fired.
Sanchez was tactless and for that reason he should be fired and I probably would have made the same decision. But what he actually said was taken way out of proportion. Sanchez was specifically responding to the claim that Jews could empathize with him because he was a minority, and I personally believe he has a right to disagree with that claim. Unfortunately for him his response went too far by implying the media was "bigoted".

M$OK, OK, OK, wait. I need some clarification here.
I know almost exactly how Jon Stewart grew up--he's less than 10 years older than I am and we went to rival high schools in New Jersey. He grew up 15 minutes from where I grew up. The only difference is something Stewart himself pointed out on his show on Monday following Rick's Pink Slip--he didn't have it as rosy as Sanchez painted it. His parents were divorced and he was raised by a single mother.
Sanchez's mouth sank his career. Earlier in the week he'd offered to switch shows with Stewart for a day. That ain't happening, I guess.
Where do we hear that the media is predominantly Jewish?
Oh, wait, I see:
I get it. JEWWATCH.COM is the place.
Well, from Tel Aviv and Brooklyn, we watch you gentiles, too.
Sanchez, who is not Jewish, must not have liked Prime Time.
Rick Sanchez counter-balanced Wolf Blitzer. Jack Cafferty has to do that now..
Sanchez was not only tactless but he was fact-less, too.
And he now knows the meaning of "Don't bite the hand that feeds you."
(My son is in first grade and knows what that means.)
You do realize that Sanchez has put Geraldo Rivera between a rock and a hard place--Jewish mother, non-Jewish, Hispanic father. And I have no idea how well Sanchez will be received in his home town.
The best Jewish "wine" is "I WANT TO GO TO MIAMI!"
Rick Sanchez has given stand-up comics of every variety something to dig at.
For example, have you seen this photo of his new office door:
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/nojewssign.jpg
But, you know what, while we're on facts...
It's quite possible Sanchez was really, really drunk off his ass--I don't know.
Let me do a Christine O'Donnell (Adorable as she is, she makes no sense.)

I did not say Rick Sanchez was completely drunk and out of control when he did that interview. I would never say Rick Sanchez was drunk when he did that interview. Did I say Rick Sanchez was drunk when he did that interview? Come on, I never said Rick Sanchez had a substance abuse problem. I did not say Rick Sanchez had several drinks before that interview. Who said Rick Sanchez was drunk when he did that interview? That's just dirty politics.

I don't know if any of us other Jews in the media have noticed.
I'll strong-arm the rabbi to bring it up on the next meeting we have.
Not the first time Rick was hammered and did irreversible damage:
"On Dec. 10, 1990 one Rick Sanchez struck a pedestrian while leaving a Miami Dolphins game highly intoxicated. The man was left paralyzed and Sanchez fled the scene. He returned some two hours later and was subjected to a sobriety test. He blew a .15 — which is not just drunk, but asshole drunk.
Since Rick was a well known reporter in the Miami area, he was helped out by his cop friends and only charged with a DUI. The man who was left paralyzed by Rick’s drunk driving died 5 years later in a nursing home.
The moral of the story here is don’t go on television and smear other people when you’re a drunk driving murderer. "
http://www.thehotjoints.com/2009/10/14/cnns-rick-sanchez-is-a-drunk-driving-murderer/
"It happened on Dec. 10, 1990. Mr. Sanchez, seriously drunk behind the wheel, with his dad as passenger, was leaving a Miami Dolphins game. He had barely left the stadium parking area before he hit a man who was running between cars, and who (unfortunately) was also drunk. Undoubtedly helped by invisible friends on the police force, Sanchez was not charged with causing the accident, but was later charged with (and pleaded no contest to) DUI.
But here’s the cowardly part: Sanchez initially left the scene of the accident for 2 full hours. One local report said he first went home to get his license and fell asleep. (Yeah, right.)
Anyway, by the time he meandered back to the scene and his dilly-dallying cop friends
tested him for alcohol, it was at least four hours after the accident. Even with all his friends helping him, Sanchez’s blood still registered .15 — way above the then-legal-limit of .10.
Closing chapter for victim: The Miami Herald, Nov. 2, 1995
“Jeffrey Smuzinick, who was left paralyzed after being struck by the car of Channel 7 anchor Rick Sanchez, died Monday in a Pennsylvania nursing home. He was 36. Smuzinick was injured Dec. 10, 1990, after he ran out into traffic following a Dolphins football game. He was struck by a 1991 Volvo driven by Sanchez. Smuzinick suffered severe head injuries and was in a coma for many months. He underwent rehabilitation in Florida …”

This time, what Rick hit--with a satellite--was his career.
The career of Rick Sanchez was born in Minneapolis in 1979.
It died in Atlanta on October 1, 2010. It was 31.

I'll call B.S. on Sanchez if he checks into alcohol-abuse treatment..

M$The NPR reports --> In an appearance on Pete Dominick's SIRIUS show last night, promoting Conventional Idiocy: Why the New America is Sick of Old Politics, Rick Sanchez called Jon Stewart a bigot — with "very much a white, liberal establishment point of view."
USA Today's Ann Oldenburg summarizes
quote...
He added, "He can't relate to a guy like me. He can't relate to a guy whose dad worked all his life. He can't relate to somebody who grew up poor."
When Dominick suggested Jews (such as Stewart) have some sense of what it's like to be an oppressed minority and saying that Jews are as much minorites as Latinos in the U.S. (Sanchez is Cuban-American), he snickered. "Yeah," Sanchez said, sarcastically. "Very powerless people...snickers He's such a minority, I mean, you now every who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot opeople who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they--the people in this country who are Jewish--are an oppressed minority? Yeah."

Listen for yourself, hear the exchange words between Pete Dominick and Rick Sanchez
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOkqrmSVEDE&feature=player_embedded
After reading Ms. Ann Oldenburg's summarization and listening to those exchange words, in my opinion, I don't Mr. Sanchez was ONLY calling Mr. Stewart --a Bigot..Mr. Sanchez mentioned others - in his view. It just that Mr. Sanchez failed for a BAIT whereas Mr. Dominick's questions (Jon Stewart issue) were on an offense for Mr. Sanchez to be on a defense. It just unfortunately, 'sound bites' ruled that caused Mr. Sanchez being FIRED by his employer.
From CNN.com US
"Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company," according to a statement from CNN. "We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well."
CNN.com US reports:
During the interview with Dominick, Sanchez called "The Daily Show's" Jon Stewart "a bigot" and then said that he was bigoted against "everybody else who's not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?"
Dominick pressed for specifics, and Sanchez, who is Cuban-American, responded, "That's what happens when you watch yourself on his show every day, and all they ever do is call you stupid."
Dominick, who was once the warm-up comic at Stewart's Comedy Central show and now has a spot on CNN's "John King, USA," noted that Stewart is Jewish and so a minority himself.
"I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah," Sanchez responded.
The comments were widely quoted online and on social media.
Sanchez's 3 to 5 p.m. daily spot will be filled by "CNN Newsroom" for the "foreseeable future," CNN said.

M$2: He called Jon Stewart a bigot and then recanted that statement. However he then said exactly the same thing about Jon in a less direct and more ignorant manner.
3: I would have fired Sanchez for that interview because it does nothing but reflect poorly on CNN. And maybe it made CNN realize how much more news they could broadcast without the huge portion of airtime devoted to Sanchez..
