You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Thank you
"God save the queen" is the royal anthem of Canada, while "O Canada" is its national anthem.
While I usually don't quote from forum posters, I verified most of these comments.
quote "The Governor General of Canada, Michaƫlle Jean (a native of Haiti) was properly introduced at the start of the ceremony with the Vice Regal Salute.
The Viceregal Salute is composed of the first six bars of the Royal Anthem ("God Save the Queen") followed by the first and last four bars of the national anthem ("O Canada")" end quote

The Governor General is the viceregal representative of the Canadain head of state and monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

It seems some UK chatters were pleasantly surprised to hear the bars.

You probably confuse it with "Oh Canada" or the Olympic Hymn

I didn't see the ceremony to know for sure - but it would make sense if it was. Our government is Federal parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy - meaning we're still "ruled" by the Queen of England (more figuratively than anything).
