Why the hell is Cal always on fire?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

California has a coastal mountain range that blocks moisture from the interior. In addition, north of the Los Angeles basin there is a mountain range running east and west that blocks moisture from reaching the southern areas. In addition, the jet stream that brings in moisture is usually north of California, and over Oregon or Washington during the summer. That is why Oregon and Washington are so rainy. And if all these in additions aren't enough, the winds blow out of the Mohave desert drying out the south even more and causing any fires to spread that much faster.
The farther north you travel in California, the less fire hazard there is. But most of the people live in southern California.
