Why should Kirstie Alley apologize for weight gain? It is her body not ours.

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

She shouldn't be apologizing at all. It's her body. If anything she should be apologizing to herself for letting herself go. She's obviously having a rough time.
I wish the media would cease their obsession with weight.
Some people will always be bigger than others as some gain/lose weight more easily. The idea is to stay healthy and eat right but we can't expect people to be stick thin.
Right now Kirstie has crossed the obesity line and is obviously at an unhealthy weight but she should lose weight for her own good and not to please the public. And she needn't be a size 2. She just needs to get back to a weight that she feels good and healthy in.

I didn't know she did apologize. I don't think she owes anyone an apology. Maybe her Jenny Craig endorsement was riding on it

No one should have to apologize for their appearance. But in the case of weight you should not try to get pity either. If you fat your fat because you eat too much and don't exercise enough. You have made a conscience choice to be fat and that is what you end up being.

I take issue with people that say "you made a conscious choice to be fat".
The truth is that some people have more of a tendency to gain weight than others. Lifestyle is obviously a huge factor as evidenced by the world getting fatter as our lives become more sedentary but I don't think it's as simple as saying that you make a conscious choice to be fat.
Do you think this child chose to be fat? And fat children become fat adults but as children they don't choose what they eat.

You are SOOOOO WRONG on that one. I'm currently in the "Morbidly Obese" category. I eat too much and have a job where I sit on my ass all day. So therefore I'm fat. Simple as that. I am trying to make changes but I'm fat because I'm currently choosing to be so.

That is spoken well for someone who has probably never been overweight a day in his life. Being fat is NOT something that people choose to be. Yes there are a lot of people who don't eat right and don't exercise but there are also people with medical problems. Obesity is not a choice it is a condition.

Did somebody FORCE FEED that child? If so then your correct he did not choose to be fat. I take issue with the fact that nobody in the US wants to take responsibility for their actions these days.

I definitely agree. She should not apologize for her weight gain any more than any of us should apologize publicly for our own. Even though she's in the public eye, that doesn't necessarily mean that she has any responsibility to us.

I think the same can be said for the celebrities who lose too much weight. Models and many actresses cut their weight down so far that it becomes unhealthy for them and sets a terrible precedent for our youths who look up to them. But still, it's their own body and they're allowed to do what they want with it without apology.

I'm in full figured agreement with dcanswerer. I hate the fact that ones appearance tends to be a constant in our society. I'm proud to be a fat bunny in my Mahalo avatar, even though I'm not... a bunny.
