Why should I stay?
I enjoy the question/answer format, but I don't forsee it making enough money to make it as valuable as some other writing ventures I am involved in.
Yes, I can do tasks and manage pages, (and I still may try some tasks now and then), but I'm not sure Mahalo Answers is for me (until we get some more literature or crafty questions).
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Create 2 Mahalo Topic Pages on something that you are an expert in. Really put effort into creating the absolute best pages that you can. Make them better than anything you've ever seen before. Then, focus on the work that makes you money online. Come back every once in a while to check your balance, the number of views and heck maybe even add a couple of new links to the page or a couple of sentences. This should give you a good gauge of where Mahalo is at.
Beyond that....
The success of Mahalo Answers lies in the questions. We've had a real lack of honest, interesting questions lately.
The success of Mahalo Topic Pages (aka serps) lies in the traffic. According to Quantcast, Mahalo has had an overall spike in traffic. We have no idea where that traffic went and have no way to figure out how to optimize our pages for it. I do however know that people have made more money on topic pages than ever before.
So, all-in-all, this system is still VERY young. Mahalo is obviously onto something, but they still have a long way to go.
When compared with other ways to make money online, Mahalo is completely inadequate.
However, those of us here who keep plugging along are betting on the long term. By doing the work now and carving out a small niche, the folks who put up with all of the ups-and-downs now may have an edge in the future.
Will it happen? No one knows.
Feel like taking a chance to find out? All you're out is time if Mahalo looses.

M$You have the freedom to create any literature pages that don't exit, and you will probably find enough that need to be claimed to keep you interested for a while. This is a great opportunity to experiment with building something that will not only create a community, but also create a revenue stream for you.
We are all here at a time when we can help define what Mahalo is to us. You may also find some good points in this discussion from earlier in the week. Lots of good ideas in the responses.

I'm currently experimenting with a few different topic areas. I would love to attract more needlecraft folks here, get the hobbies section growing. I'm also dabbling in nutrition and semantic web, because those are areas I'm very interested in and enjoy researching and sharing information.
I hope you will consider the opportunity you have with Mahalo Pages. Ultimately that is what will drive in depth questions on a variety of topics into Mahalo Answers.

M$Thanks for the feedback everyone and thanks for the nomination @bunnyphuphu. I enjoy being part of building something new. I think having Mahalo page managers with a variety of interests taking on the building of sets of pages a community will be drawn to is very important. I do believe that Answers will evolve as communities of users congregate here.
great answer @socalsue
a quick comment
stay at mahalo if it is fun for you to write questions and to answer them
mostly it is a community service
certainly not a way "to make quick BIG money"
cheers!

Mahalo Answers tipping is not intended to be a job... the tips are intended as a fun way to show appreciation between users. The proper comparison for Mahalo Answers is something like Yahoo Answers which has no "rewards program."
That being said, you should really check out the How To team and Mahalo Tasks. We've been having great success with that group by paying folk M$7 to do a how to article and then giving them half the AdSense revenue.
People are starting to make some money from those pages.

M$I agree with you that sometimes, some questions here aren't really that interesting lately. But maybe this is just now. Maybe later on, you'll see questions where you could relate more. And like what I said, money isn't really the thing here. It's more on sharing what you know with others.
I cannot force you to stay. If you think this is not for you, then you should do something else that could make you more satisfied. But you seemed to be a good writer. Your skills could make you earn more here if you'll stay and maybe manage more pages.

M$They thing is that , in my case, I enjoy answering these questions, even if they are only 25 cent ones. The money you can get here is in the long run, once you manage a ton of pages. But having a good amount of points is always a plus as people see that you are ready to manage more and more pages.
Tasks can be good money, how to's are paid 5 USD each which is a great amount for what takes 20-30 minutes of work (to make a really good how to) not to mention you can then claim the page, so you hit two birds with one stone (not bad!).
If you don't enjoy Mahalo, I wouldn't recommend staying, mostly if you get more money from other writing ventures.
Cheers!

M$If you have a better business model with your other writing projects, by all means pursue them. Until you do, Mahalo has provided a way to not only share the wealth but to attract people to run the site for them for little to no pay.
I've made more money giving my opinion and sharing my search engine skills on Mahalo than I have anywhere else.

M$By all means, attend to those projects in your life that pay your bills and advance your personal and professional goals. Come to Mahalo a few times a week for some fun and add content to any pages you manage. If you have to be away from here for a few weeks due to commitments, so be it. Nothing wrong with that. You're allowed to have a life *wink*
So, stay at Mahalo. Come when the mood hits ya. We'll be here, waiting with open arms!
