Why not make cars out of wood?

Wood supposedly has a higher strength to weight ratio than steel and aluminum.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes the Morgan is a wooden car. They're great too, I've actually been to their factory in Malvern, UK to see them made.

This is a company who aren't struggling to sell the cars they make.

Morgan's Website can be found at http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/shop/shop_list.phtml

I would imagine that they aren't used because wood is much more expensive to use on a car, as long as you want it to look good, which is what people want. Cool story though.

Low strength to weight ratio and stiffness. Hard to get a consistent product because of stringent requirements for wood gain. Hard to upkeep from sensitivity to moisture and wear and tear.
