Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to www.labtestsonline.org

The ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) test is used to screen for autoimmune disorders (when your immune system creates antibodies against molecules of your body).

"A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease, but further specific testing is required to assist in making a final diagnosis. ANA test results can be positive in people without any known autoimmune disease. While this is not common, the frequency of a false positive ANA result increases as people get older."

"Also, ANA may become positive before signs and symptoms of an autoimmune disease develop, so it may take time to tell the meaning of a positive ANA in a person who does not have symptoms. Most positive ANA results don't have significance, so physicians should reassure their patients but should also still be vigilant for development of signs and symptoms that might suggest an autoimmune disease. "

From http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/ana/test.html

Unknown or rare autoimmune diseases are very hard to determine because they require very specific analysis (and in some cases, an entire research project). But don't panic, sometimes your body can manage that without negative consequences. Just stay alert to other symptoms.

A positive ANA test can be due to many things including infection, hormonal diseases, skin diseases, rheumatic disease, cancer, blood diseases, lung diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, just to name a few. As this is a general test, your doctor would need to do additional testing to determine the exact cause. You can read more about this test here

Please note that I am not a doctor, and internet advice cannot substitute for professional medical advice on your ANA levels. Here's some ideas...

It sounds like you're having troubles with your doctor's quality of care. Perhaps you need a new one who can offer you some solutions, or at least a better explanation of the situation.

I've found my truly best doctors by asking the nurses at the hospital.

Go to your largest, best, local hospital.

Ask the receptionist where patients with your condition are treated. Go to that area’s nurse's station and chat with them. Ask for someone who is well schooled, explains things well to patients, has good medical skills.

This book is excellent, also “How to talk to your doctor”. http://www.aarp.org/health/staying_healthy/prevention/a2003-03-13-talkdr.html

Here are some great books I've read, you might like them.
