By having something to talk about that is on the opposite end of the spectrum (sports, work, cars, games) men can bond with each other without actually having to "feel" too much or "show weakness" (as some put it) by getting all emotional and sappy.
I, on the other hand, would rather have real conversations, hug, talk, share, love, connect and bond. Since I find that impossibly boring to do with most men because of their need for sports, etc., to be the focus instead of more personal things, I tend to spend more time in the kitchen with the women or hang out with the kids and play with them.
So if your man (or men in your life) find the holidays rough on them emotionally, give them their excuse to bond and know that in their own way they ARE spending quality time together. They'll love you more for it, even if the only way they can show it (in front of the other men) is by smacking you on the butt and asking you to get them more beer.
