Why isn't there a salary cap in Major League Baseball?

I agree about the greedy part. Sports players are overpaid, and it's just getting worse. People seem to care about money more than the actual sport at times. When I hear reports of people turning down offers, just to go with another team for 1 million more (or even more than that sometimes!) it's just crazy and wrong. Granted... many people do donate to charities, but many don't and just buy many houses and cars with their salaries.
