Why is there no Mahalo Answers section for environmental/green issues? Do you think there should be one?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is a great question. As we were building the categories, we thought that individual green/environmental issues could go under other specific categories that apply to them. For example, if you wanted to ask a question about Hybrid cars, you could go to the Hybrid Cars category under Cars & Transportation. If you want to know how to get a good price on solar panels, you could go to Home & Garden. An Environmental category is a popular request, however, so we'll definitely be keeping it in mind.

Mahalo!

Is there any way to "cross-list" items? I think for browsing purposes, having the environmental topics all over the place will make them difficult to find. Ideally, if you could tag the questions and list them in both a separate category and under the "other" category would be perfect - i.e., have hybrid cars under both an environmental category and the cars category. This cross-classification would be handy for lots of things - you could have a question like "Should I get a pit bull if I live in X city" under both legal and pets. As a lawyer, I'd have one answer, based on the breed-specific legislation that might be in place in your city, and I'd probably be surfing the legal category but not the pet category. At the same time, a pit bull lover/rescuer who knows about the dog parks and culture of a certain city might post about very different issues and would only be looking at the pet category to answer questions.

I suspect this question is going to come up a LOT in the near future as you get more users.

You're absolutely right that this question will and has already come up quite a bit. We decided to stick to One Question-One Category for the time being, deciding that having it otherwise could possible encourage abuse and confuse the user experience. It's definitely on our radar, though, and we'll be weighing the pros and cons of these changes in the near future.

Thanks!

Would it not be better to be able to tag questions like you can in delicious rather than categorizing them?

Yeah, that would be a much better way of asking what I was just rambling about...

I think an environmental section would limit the the variety of answers you would get as opposed to having them in their respective categories as stated above which would more likely be viewed by more people of varying opinions.
