Why is there being a new Footloose made?

I was very surprised yesterday when I was searching something online and I seen that a new Footloose is in the works for 2011. I checked to see what information I could find out, because I thought it was like a totally different movie, but the characters are the same. Why make a movie like this again? I find it to be bothersome that they would try to top the old one. From my experiences with movies, the new ones are never better than the first. What do you think?

Hollywood despite all the new scripts bought yearly the industry still manages to remake or sequel a Franchise to death. You see, money is no longer made at the box office it's made in dvd rentals and sales. Which is easier, to get you to see a storyline you're familiar with or gamble with a new storyline that might sink like the Titanic?

It's less of a risk.

I really don't know why production companies re do old movies. All the horror movie remakes are just embarrassing (i hear they are re doing hellraiser) other than making people remember the original it seems like they are likely to lose money on these re makes because people are holding them to such high standards. The remake of nightmare on elm street was decent i suppose but i was expecting it to be better than the original, which is the only reason to re do it if you ask me.

I suppose this will make DVD sales of footloose skyrocket for about a week. Who knows why else.
