Metallurgy helps us to discover new alloys to make lighter, stronger, more durable materials. It helps us to learn the chemical reaction of placing two pieces of metal in contact with each other, how they'd corrode, and how they might transfer electricity between the two. If not for metallurgy, we would not have airplanes, automobiles, nuclear reactors, or the Bronze Age.
