I don't think that is is necessarily relevant. It's just for fun, entertainment, and self pride. Some people get really into it, others could care less about it. Personally, I'm not really interested in the pageant, but I would watch it if there is nothing else on. It's fun to see the girls representing each state, and seeing who comes out as the winner.
