M$So while the show will no longer be seen on ABC affiliates, it will be a leverage chip used to get the OWN on the basic cable networks. This is key to the idea in that there are numerous "networks" trying to become a part of a basic package as they then get paid by the cable providers based on the number of homes they are delivered to.
When the Big 10 Channel had a similar beef with Comcast, they wanted $2 per subscriber and wanted to be free. Comcast eventually made a deal with them.
The popularity of the Oprah show will make cable providers bend over backwards to make sure that the OWN is on their basic package. Otherwise, customers will switch providers to make sure they get their OPRAH.
