Why is my cheese growing yeast?
I've never had an issue with yeast on cheese before but the last month or so I've opened my cheese several times to find yeast growing on the outside. Granted I just cut it off and use the cheese anyway, but it's annoying and wastes that outer layer. Is this a condition in my fridge? How do I fix it?

Hi @unwirklich. I'm guessing that you may not have yeast but rather some form of mold, or the bacteria, that actually helped create or ferment the cheese in the first place. While you don't want to ingest the large colonies (or patches of mold you can see) the rest of the cheese should be ok to eat.
All cheeses are made with a process that involves fermentation with bacteria - good bacteria - that helps create the product and each cheese's unique flavor. Assuming there is not another source of contamination from within your refrigerator, it may be that this type of cheese has this tendency.
I'd suggest asking the shop owner or manager or perhaps consulting with a deli manager about the issue so that you can manage it, if there are tips they have. If it's not something that can be changed and you don't like it, you'll just need to find another type of cheese.
