Why is MailChimp so inexpensive?

Mail Chimp seems to be a powerful email marketing tool. The price is so much lower than those of the competitors I've evaluated. Is there a catch?
Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

They actually seem fairly in line with self-service email marketing services I've checked out. I've used them for over a year now and have been very happy.

One of the reasons they may be cheaper is due to some of their services are extra add-ons for an extra cost. For example, you can't see the actual emails of who clicked or opened your email campaigns (you can see summary numbers and percentages, but not the specific address of the person who opened and what they clicked). You can get that level by purchasing an add-on.

Also, unlike some competitors, they don't require you to resend all your email lists confirmation requests when you move your list over to MailChimp (very helpful).

Yes, using their sign-up forms all perform double opt-in for you (and is required). However, if you are importing an existing list (from, say, a text file), they trust that you have permission and simply add the new email addresses to your list.

Thanks for your helpful reply. Did they require all your new registrants to be double opt-in?

I checked it out and it seems legit.

I looked it over and it actually seems FUN! I just need something to market so that I can start to use it!

SurveyMonkey, from the same creators, is one of the best survey tools out there for simple to moderate survey needs, and it's dirt cheap. Software and services don't have to be expensive. It's not like it costs a ton to produce or host those services...

We tried this at www.gymcompany.es and it worked very well. They have a very useful anti spam support and their templates look fresh and stylish.

I think it is one of the best platforms out there but BEWARE of their location. Because they are in the US, they are very strict when it comes to data gathering and were you obtained your emails from.

Because it has about 1000 competitors doing the same thing and is far more difficult to use than MadMimi.com

If something has been priced lower than its competitor then it doesn't mean that thing is a catch.
It's a market positioning issue. Today market is more competitive due to uprising of competitors. So, delivering product or service at lower cost, drive to rethink competitors on price banding issue. It's a "strategy" not a "catch".

MailChimp just seems to be one of those company's that "get it". They seem to want to deliver a quality product, at a good low price. Word of mouth is already working for them. You're advertising here just for asking about them.

Business model -- Good Product + fair price = less pirating, more sales, SUCCESS!!!

i have used MailChimp for 5 months now and can indeed tell you that they are VERY good, great stats and addons available. HOWEVER.........i am moving over to CampaignMonitor slowly so that i can offload payment processing and allow clients to sign in themselves rather than use MailChimps API to create a white label side for my client as CM already provides this.

Are they that inexpensive? They're certainly not expensive by any means, but Aweber's pricing structure is pretty much identical so I'm not sure why I'm seeing so many people amazed at MailChimp's pricing.

It seems to be so cheap as a result of it being both pay by month and offering tiered levels of service. Reviews seem to be favorable.
