Why is Mahalo Answers so slow compared to other websites?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$I am in Massachusetts. I use Firefox for my browsing, and for part of the loading process, I can't do anything in Firefox (switch tabs, etc).
I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was also slow when I used to live in Manchester, England. Belfast is on the east coast of Ireland, Manchester is on the west coast of England.
I live in NH and Mahalo is fine for me. Slower than some sites, faster than others.
Firstly, we're in the middle of optimizing our MySQL cluster (our primary data store for most thigns on Mahalo), and we feel that when this is all done (we'll be doing the first step later this evening, and incremental improvements throughout the month of August) that many actions on the site will see marginal to tremendous increases in average load time.
The second note is that while we do hope to have better international coverage at some point, it's not on the immediate road map. This means that Mahalo will always be a little slower than sites that do have data-centers over seas (Google, Yahoo, etc). However, I do feel most of your concerns are likely being shared with other users.
As Justin suggested in his answer, if there's any particular action on the site that you notice is constantly slow, please do file it away on our uservoice account--our engineers are checking that daily and always using it to prioritize bug fixes and speed optimizations. Our MySQL improvements will help fix some slowness, but not everything. There are a variety of edge cases that are difficult to guess on our end for testing purposes; filing a bug in the link Justin provided, with as much details on the particular slow page/action as you can, is an extremely helpful step in helping us solve problems and make Mahalo the most enjoyable experience imaginable

M$Speed optimisation is at the advanced end of website design as there are many factors involved servers, software, bugs etc. A fast site seems more usable to searchers.
