Why is Mahalo Answers so similar to Yahoo Answers?

The avatars are Yahoo Answers-esque and there are a number of other striking similarities.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

maybe because it has "Answers" in it's name? And avatars are similar in one way only - they are illustrations...

there are plenty of differences though:
1. the purpose it to share knowledge, so it's designed for different kind of audience
2. you may embed videos, MP3s, Photos, etc. - makes way more fun to use
3. you may earn some real money - how cool is that? I bet there will be lots of folks with lots of free time just tipping away and competing for Mahalo dollars (that you may convert to real cash)
4. it looks better too

these are just couple of things to start, I'm sure you'll get more complete answers...

Besides the obvious "Question/Answer" service... The green really reminds me of yahoo answers and so do the avatars... Very yahoo-ish...

I think "Yahoo Answer + Google Answer = Mahalo Answer".

I don't think so. Google really likes fast loading very small web pages... With all the gradients here... not for google.

I would say because when there is a pretty obvious way to deal with a problem, different people are going to arrive at the same answer independently. For example, automobiles were invented nearly simultaneously by several people in several countries, and they all looked pretty similar and operated pretty similarly to each other. That's especially true where people are trying to come up with something that will be intuitive.
