Amanda Knox was found guilty of sexual assault and murder on December 5, 2009. The question remains whether the evidence is conclusive or not. Knox continues to insist upon her innocence, stating that she was at her boyfriend's house the evening the crime was committed. The discrepencies of the evidence are being addressed with the usual appeal process.
However, a new third-party review of DNA evidence has recently been granted that may weigh in her favor during an appeal. Knox's DNA was found on the handle of a knife used in the crime and was used as a major piece of evidence to win the conviction.
Speaking of the DNA evidence review, one of Knox's college friends David Johnsrud has said, "That will have a big influence on the tone the case. If it comes back that the third-party experts agree that the DNA evidence is inconclusive, there’s very little left to tie her to the case. … The entire case hinges on that.”
It has also been revlealed recently that star witness AGAINST Knox, Antonio Curatolo, may not have had the character attributes expected of such an important witness. It was found that Curatolo was actually a homeless heroin dealer and is up for drug dealing charges.
As the court proceedings play out and more evidence is presented or rejected, Knox's role in the crime should become more clear. However the public views the scenario, it appears the Italian court system is working and new facts are being reviewed in a "timely" fashion. Knox has never claimed that she has been mistreated, simply that she is innocent. Only time will tell.
