Why is it we have to wait so long for the new season of Dexter?

Just a hunch, but I think that especially with the current economic wackiness going on, Showtime wants to make sure that the ratings are still there before greenlighting another season.
That said, the network just OK'd the next TWO seasons, so maybe that'll speed up the process in the future. As it stands, though, the show is on schedule to be shot in the spring and return for season 4 in the fall...pretty normal schedule, really (at least it's not the 2-year wait that Sopranos fans had to endure!)...
